MechWarrior 2 is a 3-D simulation game where you drive around this big robot and shoot other robots. Lots of weapons. It is also cool because you can play live realtime over the Internet using NetMech. NetMech is available for download for Mechwarrior 2 DOS at Activision.
It's been a while since I've played. I've passed each of the missions like six times, 100-120 hours. Once in a while five or six hours at a time.
Here are some good mechs and why:

Lately autocannons.
Mad Dog Tequila: 3 mplas, LRM20 with 2 tons extra, 2 SSRM6 with one ton extra ammo each plus all the heatsinks you can get. Groupfire enabled.
Mad Dog Optimum: LRM20 with 3 tons of ammo, 3 SSRM6s with 3 tons ammo each, and 2 medium pulse lasers is a well balanced, survivable death machine. Rocket the targets from long range as you approach obliquely. Use zoom. By the time you reach about 550 meters, the LRM should recycle. Fire the LRM at the reacquired target and then switch to the SSRMs. They should lock soon after approaching under 500 meters. Fire on the lock. Switch to pulse lasers until the rockets recycle and then alternate between SSRMs and pulse lasers. Don't walk towards your target. The LRMs can be used without locks at this range. Use superior speed to harass and destroy larger mechs.
Timberwolf Stalker: 2LRM20s, one with 3 tons ammo and one with 2 tons ammo, 2 SSRM6s with one ton ammo each, and 3 medium pulse lasers. LRMs from all the way out. Pulse lasers to LRMs within range. -1 ton ammo. Save the streaks for mobile targets.
